# Why “life coach”?

> About the title — GLP-1 Life Coach — GLP-1 Life Coach is a personal research notebook about semaglutide and a fuller idea of progress. It offers no coaching or clinical services.

**About this site**

Because a conversation about progress needs room for a life. That is the ambition behind the name, without claiming a professional role.

## The title’s boundaries

GLP-1 Life Coach is the title of my notebook on published research about semaglutide. It is an editorial site, not a coaching business or a healthcare practice. Sessions, clinical assessments, prescriptions and products are unavailable here. Nothing here is medical advice.

For me, the name opens a question: what counts as progress when a conversation concerns someone’s life? Letting a weight figure supply the entire answer feels remarkably incurious to me. A fuller account can give duration, tolerability and health outcomes space of their own, without setting a score for the person at the center of it.

There is no professional title hiding in the word “coach.” It names the site’s interest in follow-through. The boundary is straightforward: reading and discussion happen here; individual care happens elsewhere.

## Why semaglutide?

The [STEP 1 weight result](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33567185/) is substantial enough to deserve a close look on its own. Then [SELECT](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37952131/) asks about cardiovascular events in people with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity without diabetes, and [FLOW](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38785209/) asks about kidney-disease events in people with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

That range widened my sense of what a progress report could contain. My curiosity has shifted toward the breadth of a treatment’s effects, its population and its span of follow-up. I’m equally interested in the burdens that accompany a benefit. Those interests fit together comfortably; enthusiasm can survive a full account of the tradeoffs.

The [progress cards](/weight-over-time) begin with weight and duration. The [reading list](/references) has the published sources behind the discussion. I hope the result feels like a conversation with enough time to finish a thought, rather than a pep talk rushing toward a conclusion.
